Charges are pending against an Abingdon father, who allegedly encouraged a fist fight between his daughter and another girl, that started brewing on Facebook.
The teenage girls may also face legal penalties.
Around 6:30 p.m. June 15, a Harford County Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to the area of Henderson and Leeswood roads in Bel Air in response to reports of two teenage girls fighting in the street, according to the police report.
When police arrived, one 15-year-old girl was at the scene. She had cuts on her knees and nose and some blood on her face, according to the report.
The girl said she was fighting another girl over, "a bunch of girl drama on Facebook," according to the report.
The 15-year-old said she pushed the other girl, then climbed on top of her, according to the report.
The 15-year-old Bel Air girl said the other girl's father allegedly pulled the 15-year-old off of his daughter, then let her go, at his daughter's prompting, according to the report. The two girls then continued to hit each other, according to the report.
Two passersby saw the fight and said the girl's father, later identified as Frank Besaw, allegedly saw the entire incident and encouraged his daughter to hit the other teen, according to the report.
Later that day a video of the fight was posted on Facebook, and police obtained a copy. The video has since been removed.
Besaw, 36, of the 2100 block of Taylor Court in Abingdon, was issued a criminal summons for charges of disorderly conduct, second-degree assault and contributing to the condition of a child. The summons had not been served as of Thursday, according to online court records.
The issues between the girls is being handled administratively through the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to Monica Worrell, public information specialist with the sheriff's office.
