Season changes in Harford County mean changes in me

After days of cool temperatures, crisp breezes and dripping rain, the smell of damp leaves was in the air ushering in the change of seasons.

It's time for school, apple cider, sweatshirts and light jackets. Halloween events are popping up everywhere and pumpkin is in everything from muffins to coffee. It's time to change wardrobes, put away the summer clothes and pull out the sweaters.

The change of seasons always fascinates me. I know I've said it before, but the season shift always brings with it a sense of energy.

Changes are everywhere from leaves, to clothes, to sports.

Along with the shift in temperatures and daylight hours comes a change in lifestyle. Instead of beaches and boat rides, cool weather activities like camping and watching (or playing) football abound.

New episodes of television shows have also made a return to prime time. My colleague, Kayla Bawroski, and I share love for a certain television show about vampires.

The television shows give me a little something to look forward to on Thursday evenings. I settle in and watch the only two shows I follow. New plot line to follow and new characters to meet are just another fresh part of the season.

It's a comfort time of year. It's a time for being cozy. Autumn food like roast and mashed potatoes are filling and leave the belly happy.

Autumn also means a change in age for me. My birthday comes later this month and I'm excited about it. I'm excited mostly because I have plans with loved ones. I will be visiting my college friends, taking some time off and upon my return to Maryland, organizing a gathering with as many friends as can make it.

I feel like the time off will give me a chance to start fresh along with the season and the anticipation is probably part of the charge I'm feeling.

Day after day of rain can get a little dreary. My little vacation seems a great way to recharge before the holidays and have some cozy relaxation when the weather turns slightly chill.

I might take a day trip to New York or D.C. to visit museums, go apple picking or take a drive to see a friend or two who live out of my normal travel radius. It's all about the possibilities.

The season and the free time are working together and feeding the natural sense of change that comes this time of year.

I feel like I could be anything and do anything. I can make a change for the better. I can grow.

The best part about the change in season is that sense of possibility. A leaf that's usually green will turn red. Frost will come. Living things will fade, but give one last glorious show before going dormant.

I feel like the trees, experiencing a burst of creativity before hibernating for the winter.
