Harford creates new deputy chief of staff position

Harford County Executive David Craig's chief of staff, Aaron Tomarchio, will soon have a deputy chief of staff, and that person could potentially get a salary increase, according to Tomarchio.

Tomarchio said the deputy will not be a new hire, and he expected to make an announcement about the employee's identity sometime next week.

"It's not really a new position; it's more or less a new title," Tomarchio said Monday. "It's going to be an existing person that has pretty much been doing the job in that area."

"Will there be an increase in salary? That has potential to, but that has yet to be determined," he said.

The deputy chief would be working more with Harford's federal delegation, as well as with state agencies throughout the year, Tomarchio said.

The person will also help more with constituent services.

"It will just formalize what they are doing in an official position, really," Tomarchio said. "The work that they are doing, it gives them a proper title and responsibility when they are interacting with outside agencies."

Nevertheless, the county is required to advertise the position before it can be filled, he said.

According to county organizational charts, there is already one deputy chief of staff post, for agriculture. That position is held by C. John Sullivan III, who works under the county executive's office, as does Tomarchio, the chief of staff. In addition, the county executive has a legislative liaison, Nancy Giorno, who is a former deputy county attorney.
