Firefighters from Darlington, Level, Susquehanna Hose, Port Deposit and Rising Sun, as well as Delta-Cardiff in Pennsylvania, were dispatched to put out a house fire in Darlington late Wednesday afternoon. The fire caused an estimated $90,000 damage.
The fire in a two-and-a-half story, wood-frame single-family house in the 1200 block of Main Street was brought under control within 15 minutes, according to Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesperson Rich Gardiner.
Although there were initial reports of people trapped, no one was, according to Gardiner.
Photographs from the scene showed most of the exterior damage to be at the rear of the structure.
There was $75,000 in damage to the structure and $15,000 in contents, according to a Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office news release.
The fire started on the second floor rear deck and is deemed accidental because of a "careless[ly] discarded smoking cigarette," according to the release.
A passerby alerted the homeowner of heavy smoke coming from the rear deck and the homeowner was able to escape without injury.
The homeowners are Bruce and Linda Bruder, according to the release.
