The new Churchville Recreation Center expansion will have a double gym activity center that will be built so more space can be added in the future, the project's engineer explained Wednesday.

Those details were among those discussed at the Harford County Development Advisory Committee meeting in Bel Air, as the site plan for the project continues to move toward final county permit approval.

The 20,000-square-foot activity center will hold a double gymnasium, and a future addition to the center will be taken into account during construction, John Trueschler, who represented Tesseract Sites LLC, the project engineer, said at the meeting. The gyms will be programmed through the Churchville Recreation Council.

The recreation center site expansion covers about an acre on the south side of Level Road, east of the intersection of Glenville Road and Churchville Road (Route 22), will also have two multi-purpose fields, an archery range and parking for 293 cars. There will be a paved walking path and biking trail, as well.

The site will have multiple micro-bioretention facilities throughout, as well as extensive planting of forested areas to coincide with the site's landscaping and buffering. There will not be any planting on the site where the possible future addition would be constructed.

Trueschler mentioned that the engineers are "continuing dialogue with neighbors" about the center's planning throughout construction.

Other projects discussed during Wednesday's DAC meeting:

• Harford County Education Society wants to convert a 1,760-square-foot building on almost five acres to a mess hall/multi-purpose building.

The society, which is registered as a Muslim nonprofit, is working on converting the house on Philadelphia Road in Abingdon to a house of worship.

• A subdivision of the Land of Roland Knight's existing lot into two lots on 53.83 acres was reviewed. The land is on the north side of Line Bridge Road, east of Flintville Road (Route 623).
