It has become increasingly unpopular to speak well of the Protestant Reformation in many of today's religious circles. A good number of mainstream denominations have taken the position that Martin Luther was wrong, that it was a misguided chapter in Christian history and ought to be corrected, some even suggesting reconciliation with the Roman Catholic Church dogmas.
Not so at Reformation Bible Church in Darlington, where the church has celebrated the historic event annually for more than two decades. This year is no different.
Each evening from Oct. 27 to 30, the RBC congregation will host special speaker Dr. Paul Elliot and listen as he highlights aspects of the Western civilization's single most important and unique event in the last 2,000 years.
Elliot heads TeachingTheWord Ministries in Westminster and hosts the popular The Scripture-Driven Church radio and Internet broadcast. With a doctorate in Biblical exegesis, he is a published author and highly popular speaker.
When asked what the mission of TeachingTheWord is, he said, "Our ministry is based on the proposition that Christ's church must be the Scripture-driven church; God's inspired, inerrant Word must be our sole authority, and our infallible critic, in every area of life."
Reformation Celebration services begin Sunday evening at 6 p.m., and continue Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. nightly. There is no admission charge.
