The American Legion Riders, Slate Ridge Post 182, recently held a raffle for a Supermarket Sweep. The winner received a chance to run around the store and scoop up as many groceries as they could in 10 minutes or $500 worth of groceries, whichever came first.
Early on Sunday morning, June 10, the winner, Debra Mowery of Whiteford, came prepared with her list and her running shoes and was ready to roll. She took off at the start of the stop watch and stormed around the aisles pushing her carts, one at a time, and scooping up steaks, roast, sausages, ribs and seafood. Approximately 15 American Legion Riders and friends were there cheering on Mowery.
Dave Hudson, Saubel's store manager, helped out by making an announcement several times during the 10 minutes, alerting other shoppers to look out for the woman "running" through the aisles. Thankfully no one was hurt and everyone had a fun time. Mowery received her $500 in groceries in under 10 minutes, which was approximately two carts.
A big thank you to Saubel's for allowing the American Legion Riders to sponsor this sweep at their store. Saubel's also donated 10 percent of the winnings back the American Legion Riders, which will be used to benefit one of its many veterans' causes, which is greatly appreciated by the American Legion Riders.
Congratulations to Mowery and thanks to all who participated in purchasing raffle tickets and showing up on the morning on the sweep!
