Have yourself a very merry Christmas

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it's important to slow down and enjoy this time of year with those you love.

Take a break from wrapping presents and drinking eggnog to attend one of these Christmas events around Harford and Cecil counties that will surely be merry.

Hear the sounds of the season from the Edgewood Elementary School band, chorus and orchestra 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewood library, 629 Edgewood Road.

The halls will be decked at Bel Air's historic Liriodendron mansion, 502 W. Gordon St. Artwork, craft tables, trains and holiday decorations will be on display 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments will also be served. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children.

The Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care system invite guests to the Perry Point VA Medical Center's Historic Mansion open house tour at 501 Fifth St. in the village housing area. The tour is free and is open to viewings 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

A Christmas cantata will be performed 3 p.m. Saturday, as well as 11 a.m. Sunday, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 S. Union Ave.

Get a picture with Santa before he's off to the North Pole. The big guy will be at American Legion Susquehanna Post 135, 300 Cherry St. in Perryville, at 1 p.m. Sunday. There will also be presents and refreshments for all the good girls and boys.

And a week before Christmas, Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company will host its annual Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday at its firehouse at 3306 Abingdon Road. For more information, email mjcrocket@comcast.net or call 410-688-1844.

For its fifth year, local tuba and euphonium players of all ages are invited to perform four-part Christmas carols for Merry TubaChristmas. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Reckord Armory in Bel Air at 37 N. Main St. While there is no admission, participants need to register by contacting Randy Harrison, 410-391-7832 or hbcrandy@hotmail.com. Registration is $5 per performer.

Do you have the best nativity scene? The Susquehanna Ministerium wants to see photos of your display for the Greater Havre de Grace Outdoor Nativity Display challenge. Residences and businesses in Havre de Grace can send pictures up until Dec. 20 to First Baptist Church, 108 S.
