A Belcamp man was charged last week in connection with the sexual molestation of an Elkton girl when she was between the ages of 7 and 10.
Robert Joseph Hayes, 34, of the 4400 block of Dowery Lane in Belcamp, was charged Sept. 6 with sexually abusing a minor, sexually abusing a minor as a continued course of conduct, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.
At the end of August, a 16-year-old girl came forward and told an investigator with the Elkton Police Department that Hayes allegedly had illegal sexual contact with her over a period of time when she was a child, according to Lt. Matthew Donnelly with the Elkton Police Department.
Hayes and the girl knew each other and the alleged abuse took place in a home in Elkton, Donnelly said.
Hayes was being held Tuesday at the Cecil County Detention Center on $75,000.
