Saxon's Diamond Centers Hope for Harford's Homeless Golf Invitational

Lance Hersh and Kevin Ferrell, owners of Saxon's Diamond Centers of Aberdeen and Bel Air, recently presented a check for $36,000 to Susan Moscareillo, executive director of the Welcome One Emergency Shelter, of Harford County.

The check represents net proceeds from the Saxon's Diamond Centers Hope for Harford's Homeless Golf Invitational, held Aug. 1, at the Maryland Golf & Country Clubs in Bel Air. On that day, 127 golfers, celebrities and many sponsors, prize donors, shelter staff and volunteers enjoyed a day of golf, fun and fellowship to benefit the homeless of Harford County.

The Welcome One shelter is in the Riverside Business Park in Belcamp and each night of the year provides safe shelter, food, counseling and compassion to 28 of Harford County's homeless.

The shelter is run by FCCAU (Faith Communities and Civic Agencies United), a charitable organization supported by a successful collaboration of churches, faith-based groups, local businesses, foundations and government agencies.

FCCAU also operates a Transitional Housing Program with three units in Bel Air and maintains a special fund to provide homeless individuals with emergency motel nights when beds are not available at Welcome One or other shelters in the county.

Plans are now taking shape for the 2012 event, generally held the first Monday of each August.
