HBIC welcomes defense contractor

The new Harford Business Innovation Center welcomes Data Intelligence LLC to its facility in the Riverside Business Park in Belcamp near Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Data Intelligence joins five other companies and two development support organizations at the HBIC, a technology business incubator designed to attract defense contractors and early-stage technology ventures to Harford County. Companies at HBIC will be pursuing business opportunities at APG and in a range of emerging technology markets.

"We are very pleased that Data Intelligence has decided to open an office at the Harford Business Innovation Center. HBIC is becoming a prime location for innovative small technology companies to establish a footprint in Harford County and near Aberdeen Proving Ground. We look forward to supporting the development of these companies, as well as new and emerging technology companies in the region," Jill McClune, HBIC president, said in a press release. "HBIC looks forward to continuing to grow its population of resident companies as it expands its offerings to the wider technology and small business community with its Affiliate Program and upcoming training opportunities."

Data Intelligence has been a successful provider of superior system/software integration services and personnel in the federal and commercial marketplaces since 1995. For the last six years, it has been supporting the US Army CECOM Software Engineering Center's Logistics Enterprise, Enterprise Systems and Communications directorates. Its support has encompassed such key projects as the Logistics Modernization Program, the Joint Computer-aided Acquisition and Logistics System, the DSCS Integrated Management System and the Army's data strategy efforts. Headquartered in Marlton, N.J., DI also has offices in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Annual revenues total $7 million.

HBIC provides business support services and fully-wired office and conference facilities for up to 15 client companies at a furnished 12,000-square-foot facility in Belcamp. Tailored business services that will be available on flexible terms include training and mentoring in business planning, business networking, strategic teaming, marketing and sales, technical development, product development, legal and compliance issues and federal contract accounting. These services will be available to resident and non-resident or affiliate participants in the HBIC program.

"Harford County is pleased to have Data Intelligence LLC as part of our growing technology base in the corridor", Harford County Executive David Craig said in a press release.

The HBIC targets early-stage technology companies and defense contractors in engineering, computer systems and software development, management and technical consulting, scientific research and development, as well as wired and wireless telecommunications and telecommunications services. Data Intelligence will be joining STG Inc., DKJ Technologies Associates, Shonborn-Becker Systems Inc., LinQuest Corporation and NextGen Federal at the site.

HBIC builds on the success of the county's original technology incubator program, which operated for a decade at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen, assisting 14 companies and creating nearly 100 jobs.

A Maryland non-profit organization, HBIC is managed by its own staff and board of directors. McClune, of Smiths Detection, is president of HBIC, the vice president is Mike Parker of SAIC, the treasurer is Content McLaughlin of Whiteford, Taylor and Preston LLP and the secretary is Randy Rippin of RTR Technologies, Inc., whose company is a graduate of the county's incubator program at the HEAT Center.

HBIC was established with the support of the Harford County executive, the Harford County Council, the Harford County Economic Development Advisory Board, the Harford County Office Economic Development and a number of state and local partners, including the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council and SURVICE Engineering Company.
