Burglaries at Fallston and Edgewood restaurants may be related

Police believe a series of recent burglaries to Harford County restaurants, two in Fallston and one in Edgewood, are related and the crimes are under investigation.

Italian Sensation in Fallston, Tropical Treats n' Such in Fallston and Subway in Edgewood were each burglarized within the past month and police believe the crimes are connected based on the style in which they were committed. The most recent was Monday.

The first burglary took place July 6 when someone broke the front glass door to the Subway in the 1400 block of Pulaski Highway, according to the report from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Around 1:40 a.m. the alarm at the business was triggered. When deputies arrived, they found a rock laying on the floor near the shattered door. The rock also damaged the tile floor.

The burglary damaged an LCD computer monitor and the store owner said the only thing missing was a Dell Tower computer, according to the police report.

Nearly two weeks later, on July 19, deputies were dispatched to Tropical Treats n' Such in the 2800 block ofBelair Road in Fallston, according to the police report.

Shortly after 2:40 a.m., Harford sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police arrived at the scene and again discovered a shattered front door, according to the report.

A cinder block was found on the floor of the restaurant, one of the cash registers was destroyed and the cash drawer was missing. The burglar stole less than $500 cash. Nothing else was missing, according to the report.

The damage to the cash register was estimated at between $1,000 and $10,000.

On Monday, someone broke into Italian Sensation in the 2300 block of Belair Road in Fallston using similar means. Again, nearly two weeks passed between the crimes.

Maryland State Police troopers were dispatched to the restaurant around 6 a.m. Investigators believe someone used a large rock to smash the glass front door shortly after midnight, broke into two cash registered and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

Between $1,000 and $10,000 damage was done to the door and cash registers, according to Monica Worrell, public information specialist with the sheriff's office.

Worrell said the series of burglaries are under investigation by the Harford County Joint Investigative Task Force which includes detectives with both state police and the sheriff's office.
