Boys soccer: Havre de Grace, Fallston, North Harford advance in playoffs

Havre de Grace joined Fallston and North Harford in this Tuesday's regional championship matches after a 1-0 Class 1A North Region semifinal win Friday night.

The Warriors beat rival Perryville on Bobby Smith's goal, with assist from David Amici.

The Warriors will host Sparrows Point Tuesday at 7 p.m., looking for their first region crown since 1990.

Fallston's and North Harford's boys soccer teams advanced in regional playoff action Thursday night.

In another boys soccer game of local interest Thursday, John Carroll lost in the semifinals of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament.

Cougars top Huskies

Fallston and Patterson played into a second overtime before a winner could be declared in this Class 2A East Region, District VII final. The host Cougars won 2-1.

Fallston will vie for the region title Tuesday night at Edgewood High School, versus Queen Anne's, the East Region, District VIII champion. Match time is 7 p.m.

Fallston got on the scoreboard first on a Patterson Mill own goal in the first half. Patterson Mill tied the game in the second half on a Phil McDonald unassisted goal.

The Cougars celebrated victory when Austin Hey netted the game winner on an assist from Luke Ward.

Hawks beat Bobcats

North Harford advanced to the 3A North title game with a 2-0 win over host Bel Air on Thursday night. Kyle Six scored both North Harford goals, with assists from Dan Urban and Randy Foster.

Hawks goalies Austin Rice and Robert Giackos combined for the shutout.

The Hawks will play Tuesday at Aberdeen or Hereford.

Patriots ousted in semis

John Carroll's bid for a second straight upset in MIAA A Conference play ended in overtime Thursday in Roland Park.

The Patriots took second seed and defending league champion Gilman to overtime before losing 1-0 in the semifinal.

Tanner Vosvick scored the game winner 2:15 into the first overtime period. Patriots goalie Kevin Gambrell finished with nine saves.
