Playing their MIAA opener, the John Carroll Patriots boys varsity soccer team defeated visiting Spalding, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in Bel Air.
Spalding went up 1-0 with 50 seconds left in the first half off a goal by Vince Perez. John Carroll responded with two unanswered goals in the second half to secure the win.
Colby Fell tied the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute off a feed from Vince Perry. Twelve minutes later, Zach Hammons scored off a corner kick by Chris Wohlfort.
Patriots goalie Kevin Gambrell recorded the win with six saves, while Spalding keeper Casey Beyers made nine saves.
The Patriots, 3-0-1, travel to Calvert Hall Friday.
