Havre de Grace won its first region title in 21 years with the 5-4 shootout win. The game was tied, 1-1, through regulation and two overtime periods.

Sparrows Point, which controlled play throughout the match, struck first in the second minute. Off of a failed clear that bounced off the cross bar, Pointers forward Aaron Clapp headed in a goal from the doorstep.

Havre de Grace drew even 18 minutes later on a free kick after a trip. Ryan Bastian sent the ball in from 40 yards out, where Gabe Larrimore controlled it and played it left to Bobby Smith. Smith hit a low one-timer inside the far right post to knot the score.

In the overtime, Warriors goalie James Antonoplos, who made 11 saves, had one of his biggest at the end of the first extra period.

Early in the second overtime, Clapp went down with a right ankle injury and did not return.

In kicks, Sparrows Point missed its first shot wide and that's all it took as Havre de Grace made good on all five shots.

Farhan Bachu, Austin Sylvester, Connor Haffey, Gabe Larrimore and Brad Davidson tallied the Warrior goals.

Joe Wilson, Austin Gilky, Jordan Carter and Justin Allen converted kicks for the Pointers.

Havre de Grace will play at North County High School Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against defending 1A state champion Mountain Ridge.

FALLSTON beats Queen Anne's

Fallston was forced to come from behind in winning its 14th region title and its third in the last four seasons.

The Cougars fell behind, 2-0, through one half, but rallied for two goals in the final 15 minutes of the second half. Taylor Brown scored the first Fallston goal with an assist from Chris Grant and Chris Lievendag drilled a direct kick into the upper 90 of the near post to tie the game.

The Cougars then won the game midway through the first sudden death overtime period. Chris Dunnigan scored on a header off of a feed from Tyler Anderson.

Cougars goalie Robbie Kanzler finished with three saves. Fallston will play Patuxent at Bel Air High School on Saturday at noon.

NORTH HARFORD loses to Hereford

North Harford's run came up a bit short at Hereford. The Hawks lone goal was scored by Randy Foster. The Hawks finish 9-7-2.
