Boys basketball: Edgewood, North Harford win in holiday tournaments

The North Harford Hawks earned a spot in today's championship round of the Overlea Holiday Tournament with a 49-37 win over Dundalk Tuesday.

In other Tuesday holiday tournament action, Edgewood beat Joppatowne in Tuesday's opening round of the Rams tournament and C. Milton Wright lost for the second time in as many days in the Franklin Invitational Tournament.

North Harford won despite competing short-handed, bringing just eight players because starters Nick Tittle and Eric Bayer were sidelined by injuries.

Brock Hurley was North Harford's top contributor, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-best 17 rebounds. Ryan Stinar led the winners in scoring with 15 points and had 11 rebounds. North Harford's Max Mullin dished out eight assists.

The Hawks play today (Wednesday) at 6:45 p.m. in the championship game, where they will face the winner of Tuesday's Kenwood-Overlea game.

Edgewood pounds Joppa

The Edgewood Rams won easily in the first round of their event Tuesday, beating Joppatowne, 81-59, at the Coach Slagle Holiday Classic.

With the win, the Rams will today (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. in the championship game against the winner of Tuesday's semifinal game between Hammond and Severna Park.

Thomas Dillard led the way for Edgewood, scoring 19 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out an assist. Roderick Harrison had 15 points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds. Troy Anderson put up 13 points and had team-highs of 12 rebounds and three blocks. Freddie Story had nine points and four rebounds for the Rams. Van Rolle scored seven points, had three rebounds, five assists and a team-high five steals. Detrick Matthews scored nine points, had two assists, two steals and grabbed two rebounds.

On the Joppatowne stat sheet, Trevon Mosely scored 17 points, had 10 rebounds and two steals. Markell Huggins had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Matthew Jones scored 10 points, had eight rebounds and three assists. Keith Alexander had eight points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Lavelle Banks scored six points and had two rebounds. Kalil Gore had five rebounds.

Mustangs beaten in consolation round

C. Milton Wright suffered its second defeat in as many days Tuesday night, losing to Loch Raven, 58-49, in the consolation round of the Franklin Invitational Tournament.

Up, 23-22, after the first half, CMW was outscored by 10 in the second.

Will Hazelton led CMW in scoring with 12 points and had four steals. Mychal Stefanides scored eight points, had a team-high seven rebounds and two assists. Logan Keys scored seven, had two assists and four steals. Conner Bays and Sam Hahner each scored six points in the loss. Dalton Jordan scored four points and had a team-best five steals. Kevin Dorsey scored four points for CMW.
