The Edgewood Rams distanced themselves from the Chesapeake (upper) Division pack Tuesday night, winning their rematch with the Elkton Golden Elks, 61-59, in Edgewood.
In their initial meeting with Elkton on Dec. 19, the Rams (10-2 overall, 6-1 Chesapeake) suffered a 57-54 loss to the Elks.
In Tuesday's matchup, the visiting Elks ran up a 13-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter, but the Rams managed to get within one by outscoring Elkton 15-12 in the second quarter. The Rams scored 17 tallies to Elkton's 14 in the third quarter and the two teams played to a dead heat in the final quarter, each scoring 20 points.
Edgewood's Van Rolle posted 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Thomas Dillard netted 14 points in the victory, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and stole the ball twice. Troy Anderson and Maulvi Williams had matching lines, each scoring 10 points and pulling down a team-best 12 rebounds. Roderick Harrison had 11 points for the Rams. Anderson and Williams had five and six blocks, respectively.
Patriots top Panthers again
Playing on Chase St. in Baltimore on Tuesday night, the John Carroll Patriots topped St. Frances for the second time this season, beating the host-team Panthers, 70-61.
The Patriots shot well from start to finish in the victory, hitting 48 percent of their attempts from two-point range and knocking down 75 percent of their three-pointers.
"Over the last three games, these young men are gowning in a positive direction," John Carroll head coach Tony Martin said. "They are learning to overcome adversity and handle things a little better each time out."
Justin Jenifer had a team-best 21 points, while also posting three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Jarred Jones notched 14 points, six rebounds and one steal, while Rodney Elliott had 12 points, three assists, one rebound and one steal. Kamau Stokes put up 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal for the Patriots.
John Carroll led 28-23 after two quarters of play.
Huskies still perfect
Patterson Mill (11-0 overall, 9-0 Susquehanna) kept its perfect season intact on Wednesday night with a 70-35 drubbing of the host Bo Manor Eagles.
"We started poorly and never recovered," Bo Manor head coach Sandy Grimes said. "Patterson Mill was too good for us this game. Their pressure defense took us out of our game. We couldn't stop them defensively."
The Huskies came on strong from the opening whistle, scoring 28 points in the first quarter, while holding the hosts to five tallies.
Leading the way for the winning side was Garett Burkhead, who passed the 1,000 career point barrier last Friday during the Huskies' win over Rising Sun. In Wednesday's matchup, Burkhead knocked down 33 points, 24 of which came from beyond the three-point arc.
Mike Reed scored 16 points in the victory.
Bobcats edge Panthers
The Bel Air Bobcats earned a Susquehanna (lower) Division victory Wednesday evening, dispatching the visiting Perryville Panthers, 61-58.
The Bobcats (4-7 overall, 3-2 Susquehanna) trailed 7-4 after a slow opening quarter, but outscored the Panthers 18-5 in the second frame to take a 22-12 heading into the locker room at halftime. After three quarters of play, Bel Air led 43-28, and held on to seal up the three-point victory after a Perryville surge in the fourth quarter.
Tommy Keller was Bel Air's top contributor, posting 22 points and six rebounds, while Tyler Norcross helped the winning cause with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Murdock had nine points in the victory.
Mustangs top Hawks
The C. Milton Wright boys improved their Chesapeake Division record to 3-4 Tuesday night with a 74-67 victory over the North Harford Hawks (7-7 overall, 2-5 Chesapeake).
Conner Bays led the Mustangs in scoring with a 24-point performance, while Mychal Stefanides posted 12 points, four rebounds and a team-best four assists. Will Hazelton notched 10 points, three steals and three assists in the win, while teammate Kevin Dorsey put up nine points, four assists and three steals. CMW's Sam Hahner came through with a 13-point showing and led his team in rebounds with six.
North Harford's top gun was Rodney Barnett, who had 21 points and five rebounds. Madison Varvaris scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.
The Mustangs (6-7 overall) led 33-30 at the halftime break. North Harford cut the lead to 70-66 late in the fourth quarter, but missed a key three-pointer in the game's final minute.
Tech defeats Bobcats
Playing on Bel Air's court in a Tuesday night Susquehanna (lower) Division matchup, the Harford Tech Cobras topped the Bobcats, 64-58.
With the victory, the Cobras, who led 31-27 at halftime, improved to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in Susquehanna Division play.
"This was a good win for our team," Cobras' head coach Bill Jones said. "Bel Air is a very good team that's well coached. To beat them at Bel Air is huge for our confidence."
Isaiah Gills paced the Cobras, scoring 24 points, blocking eight shots and picking up six steals. D.J. Jackson had 16 points, 12 of which came from three-point land, while fellow Cobra Danny Crawford notched 17 points. Harford Tech's Telvonne Lambert had eight points and seven assists.
Joppatowne over North East
The Joppatowne Mariners (10-4 overall, 7-1 Susquehanna) won their Tuesday division showdown, knocking off the visiting North East Indians, 76-43.
Markell Huggins came through with 24 points to lead the Mariners, while Kalil Gore had nine points. Trevon Mosely posted eight points and 10 rebounds in the victory, while teammate Matt Jones had six points and a team-best nine assists.
Joppatowne led 35-19 at the halftime break.
Eagles dodge Cougars
The Aberdeen Eagles picked up a tight victory Tuesday night, defeating the Fallston Cougars (1-12 overall, 1-6 Chesapeake), 52-48.
With the win, Aberdeen's overall record bumped up to 9-4 overall and 6-1 against Chesapeake Division opponents.
Brian Adkins and Mike Davenport led the Eagles in scoring, each putting up 16 tallies.
Wyatt Alexander had 17 points for Fallston, while teammate Jason Lawrence had nine points and seven assists.
