The Patterson Mill boys won a tournament title Thursday night, pummeling the host-team Chesapeake-Anne Arundel squad, 77-52, in the championship matchup of the Cougar Classic Tournament.
Garett Burkhead scored a team-best 21 points in the victory, while fellow Husky Mike Reed netted 12 points. J.J. Butler had 10 points for the Huskies, Matt Golczewski posted nine points, Jay Kuhn came through with eight and Malik Bonds scored seven.
The Huskies led 37-20 at the halftime break.
Patriots downed in finals
Playing in the championship round of the Piggly Wiggly Roundball Classic in Charleston, S.C., Friday night, the John Carroll Patriots were forced to settle for the runnerup spot, knocked off 70-63 by the Bullis Prep team.
The Patriots trailed 40-28 after two quarters.
Justin Jenifer was John Carroll's top scorer, putting up 23 points in the loss, while teammate Jarred Jones netted 17 points. Mihael Maric scored 10 points for the Patriots and Rodney Elliott posted six.
Following the championship game, Jenifer was named as an All-Tournament first-team selection.
In their Thursday semifinal contest, the Patriots had to square off with the event's reigning champ, the Wando Warriors, but that did not faze the Harford County crew, which advanced to the title round with a 57-43 victory.
Jenifer led the way for the Patriots, scoring 22 points and picking up a pair of steals. Elliott finished with 16 points, one rebound and one assist, while Jones had eight rebounds, five points, three blocks and two steals. Mike Owona helped the winning cause with eight rebounds, four points, two blocks and one steal. Lionel Owona posted three rebounds, two points and one steal in the victory, while Marcus Monroe had four points, two rebounds and pair of steals.
