A man is dead after he broke into an Edgewood home late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
Around 4:40 p.m., according to Monica Worrell, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a home invasion in the 2000 block of Rockwell Street.
Worrell said a man, identified as Joseph Augustine Breckenridge, 53, of the 2000 block of Rockwell Street, entered the home and the woman living there ran next door where her husband was to tell him.
Once the husband and a neighbor found out what had happened, Worrell said, they went to the house and found Mr. Breckenridge. When asked to leave the residence by the husband, Mr. Breckenridge refused and a struggle ensued, then the husband and neighbor detained him while they called 9-1-1.
When deputies arrived, they found Mr. Breckenridge unconscious. Emergency services were called to transport him to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m.
No charges have been filed against the husband or the neighbor, Worrell said. Any actions that may be taken will be determined by the Harford County State's Attorney's Office, she said.
It is considered an active case until results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) are concluded, according to a press release.
