Bel Air man held without bail on charges of violating a protective order

A Bel Air man charged with three counts of violating a protective order was held without bail Friday.

During his bail review hearing in Harford County District Court through the closed circuit television system, Richard Joseph Yankowski, 55, of the 1000 block of North Rock Spring Avenue, told District Court Judge Victor Butanis that his mother is dying of cancer.

Assistant Public Defender Brian Cunningham cut off Yankowski, saying he shouldn't discuss the background of his charges.

Cunningham then added that Yankowski has a degenerative disc disease in his back and is being held without bail in another case. He was indicted on one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault stemming from a Sept. 11 offense, according to court records.

Assistant State's Attorney Bruce Smith told Butanis the alleged victims in this case were his "elderly parents."

They are also the alleged victims in the September case.

Butanis ordered that Yankowski be held without bail.
