A Harford County District Court judge denied bail Friday for an Edgewood man accused of using a firearm in a drug trafficking crime and having a large amount of drugs with the intent to distribute them.
Judge Mimi Cooper ordered no bond issued ahead of a preliminary hearing in the case of Danny L. Bentz, 57.
His address was listed on the state judiciary website as the 600 block of Haven Place in Edgewood, but he was identified in court as residing in the Baltimore area.
Cooper explained Bentz was charged with a felony, which included drug possession with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and using a firearm in a drug trafficking crime.
According to charging documents, Bentz was arrested Thursday, Sept. 1, by members of the Harford County Task Force.
Police found 19 pounds of marijuana, a scale, a semi-automatic "assault-style" gun and two more handguns, which were all loaded, in a toolbox in the garage.
Bentz is believed to be a convicted felon, according to charging documents, and is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Maryland electronic court records indicate Bentz was convicted of manslaughter in August 1986 by a jury in Baltimore County and that appeals of the conviction were subsequently denied by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.
