Baltimore County man held without bail in Harford on harassment and telephone misuse charges

A 56-year-old Freeland man is being held without bail in Harford County after being charged with harassment, telephone misuse and violating a protective order on Wednesday.

Victor Paul Sorrentino, of Old Ruhl Court in Freeland, has a long history with the judicial system.

At Sorrentino's bail review hearing Friday in Harford County District Court in Bel Air, Assistant Harford County State's Attorney Trenna Manners said Sorrentino has 51 prior arrests and 28 convictions, including numerous traffic violations, theft, burglary, breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property charges.

Public Defender Marcus Jenkins said Sorrentino has never failed to appear for court despite his convictions.

These arrests go as far back as 1987. Jenkins also said that Sorrentino is currently on probation for driving while impaired in Baltimore County.

Sorrentino, who has lived in Baltimore County all of his life, is currently unemployed, lives with his parents, suffers from partial memory loss and was recently released after being treated for pneumonia at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Jenkins said.

During the bail review, Sorrentino asked retired District Judge Lawrence S. Lanahan Jr., who presided over the hearing, if he could say something in his defense.

Lanahan quickly declined Sorrentino's request; however, Sorrentino began to speak, only getting out a few words before Lanahan reiterated that he was not to speak and that his council would talk on his behalf.

Manners requested that Sorrentino be held without bail as he could be a danger to the victim, who was not named and who had put the protective order out on him Tuesday.

Manners said 17 calls were made to the victim and Sorrentino had showed up to the victim's home, as well as the home of the victim's friend.

Judge Lanahan agreed with Manners request and decided to hold Sorrentino without bail.

Charging documents for Sorrentino were not immediately available.
