Edgewood man charged in connection with shoplifting incident

A 39-year-old Edgewood man was held on a $100,000 bail Friday on armed robbery and related charges from an alleged shoplifting incident.

Jerome Leon Quickley, of the 1000 block of Waterside Court, was charged Friday with armed robbery, reckless endangerment and theft less than $100, according to information presented during a Harford County District Court bail review hearing Friday afternoon.

District Court Judge Mimi Cooper also mentioned two outstanding traffic charges for driving even though his license was suspended license and driving even though his license was revoked on Oct. 6, which she said could carry double penalties if there are any prior convictions.

Quickley, Public Defender Marcus Jenkins said Friday, has one child and worked for a tree service company in Delaware. Jenkins also suggested he suspects the armed robbery charge will be dropped to theft with second-degree assault. Jenkins said Quickley was allegedly caught shoplifting and allegedly tried to accost the victim.

Quickley and Patricia Renae Graves were charged after the incident at Gabriel Brothers in the 3400 block of Emmorton Road in Abingdon. Graves, 19, faces a lone theft charge.

Jenkins asked for bail to be set at $25,000 or lower.

Assistant State's Attorney Christopher Tabone asked for Quickley to be held without bail. When Quickley was caught shoplifting, Tabone said, he allegedly pulled out a knife and started to swing it around.

Cooper increased the bail to $100,000 and told Quickley if he did make bail to have no contact with the victim and to not go to Gabriel Brothers in Abingdon, where the incident occurred.

According to Maryland online court records Quickley has prior convictions, including a guilty plea to second-degree assault and theft less than $100 in a Cecil County case from May 2010.
