Robbery Saturday near Bel Air hospital draws significant police presence

An armed man robbed the Exxon gas station near Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air Saturday night, but details from police remain incomplete.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., police vehicles responded to the Exxon in the 600 block of West MacPhail Road, which is next to Schimunek Funeral Home and across the from Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

A fire truck and about five to 10 police vehicles were posted outside around the business and at the mouth of MacPhail Road shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Law enforcement issued a lookout for an armed robber, described as a white man or light-skinned black man.

Bel Air Police confirmed there was a robbery at the business, but did not provide additional details as of midnight Sunday, saying only that the area remained an active crime scene.

Bel Air Police also declined to say whether or not anyone was injured. They confirmed the robber was armed but did not give further details.

The robbery remained under investigation Sunday morning, with no additional details being released by town police.
