Perryville gets a win in region pool play

It was a tough day for one and a good day for another Monday as softball all-star teams from Havre de Grace and Perryville were back in action.

Havre de Grace's Junior Softball All-Stars saw their season end in Hurlock with a 6-3 loss to St. Mary's American in Maryland State Tournament play, while Perryville's Little League All-Stars picked up their first win at the East Region Tournament in Bristol, Conn. Perryville defeated Delaware 14-4 in four innings.

Perryville will play New Jersey Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a final pool play game, but should make the Mid-Atlantic pool semifinals to be played Thursday. Game time could be 11 a.m. or 5 p.m.

In Perryville's win on Monday, a five-run first inning led to runs in four straight innings. Perryville scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to impose the 10-run rule.

Carly White was the lone Perryville batter to collect two hits and she had one RBI. Kaitlyn Griffin and Lacie Flores each had one hit and two RBIs. Allison Morris, Jewels Jones and Lydia Hill had a hit and RBI each.

Virginia Lewis, who was the winning pitcher, also had an RBI.

In Havre de Grace's loss, the locals fell behind, 4-0, through an inning and a half, but battled back to climb within a run at 4-3.

Lindsey Fenner produced the first run in the bottom of the second, slashing a one-out triple down the right field line and then scoring on an illegal pitch. Rebecca Ashman singled and came around to score on three consecutive walks in the third and Ashley Algard walked and later scored on a groundout by Annelise Beer in the fourth.

Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, a two-out error followed by a triple and single plated two insurance runs for St. Mary's.

Havre de Grace put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but a line out and strike out closed out the game.

Megan Thompson and Algard also had hits in the loss. Riley Arnold took the loss, striking out six and walking two. Arnold allowed five hits and Havre de Grace committed five errors.
