Two adults displaced after Abingdon fire

Two adults have been displaced after an Abingdon fire Wednesday evening.

Around 5:09 p.m., according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the second floor bedroom of a house in the 100 block of Box Thorne Road caught fire. No injuries were reported, but the two adults residing there are staying with family and friends.

The fire caused $75,000 damage to the structure and $5,000 in contents, according to the state fire marshal.

Approximately 40 firefighters responded to the scene, Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Fire and EMS Association wrote in an e-mail, from Abingdon, Bel Air and Joppa volunteer fire companies. There were no residential sprinklers in the residence, he added, and it took 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Gardiner wrote.
