Two men injured in Abingdon crash Saturday

Two men were transported to the hospital Saturday after an accident on Route 24, just north of Singer Road.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Maryland State Police Lt. Charles Moore, Matthew Weichert, 23, of Joppa, was on the right shoulder, headed south on Route 24 in a 1993 Honda when he swerved to avoid another vehicle on the shoulder.

In doing so, Weichert's Honda then struck a 2000 Ford pickup, driven by Dominic Bert, 45, of Bel Air, who also was headed south on Route 24, Moore said Tuesday morning.

Weichert was ejected from his vehicle in the collision and was transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by a Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter. The other driver, Bert, according to Moore, was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

No further information was available as of noon Tuesday, Moore said.
