Perryman man arrested in Feb. 22 Aberdeen shooting

Aberdeen police have arrested a Perryman man in connection with a Feb. 22 shooting in the Holly Drive area of Aberdeen. The suspect is being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center.

Jamar L. Holmes, 22, of the 200 block of Mayberry Drive in the Perrywood Garden Apartments, was charged Monday with first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault and attempted robbery.

He is accused of shooting Alton Vaughan, 23, of the 400 block of Rogers Street, in his side at about 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Holmes was allegedly one of two men who confronted Vaughan while he was driving on Holly Drive, ordered him to stop and fired a gun, hitting Vaughan and the vehicle, Aberdeen police said.

Vaughan drove back home, where he collapsed. He was ultimately taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital in Baltimore in serious condition.

Vaughan was released from the hospital Friday, Budnick said.

Holmes appeared before Harford County District Court Judge Victor Butanis for a bail review hearing Tuesday afternoon, when he was ordered to be held without bond.

Assistant Public Defender Omar Simpson requested a reasonable bail be set, pointing out that Holmes is a lifelong resident of Harford County and has several family and friends in the area. Holmes also spoke, saying he works as a baby-sitter for his baby's mother's sister.

Although he is listed as living in the 200 block of Mayberry Drive, Holmes admitted he has only been there a week and does not have a stable residence.

Assistant State's Attorney Donald Walter mentioned the brief residency, when he requested that Holmes to be held without bail, calling him an "extreme danger" to the community.

Walter also referred to the crime, saying it had an "absolutely [abhorrent] nature."

Holmes remains in custody at the Harford County Detention Center.
