Aberdeen police say a man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the armed robbery of a Rite Aid in downtown Aberdeen.
Police said they charged Donald S. Jarvis Jr., 19, of the first block of Aberdeen Avenue, with armed robbery, robbery, theft and first-degree assault.
Maryland electronic court records show Jarvis was also charged with theft under $1,000.
Jarvis, entered the pharmacy, at 15 West Bel Air Ave., shortly after 9 a.m., wearing a hooded sweat shirt and mask and allegedly displayed what was later determined to be a pellet gun, Det. Will Reiber of the Aberdeen Police Department said in a news release.
Jarvis, allegedly ordered employees to give him specific prescription medicine, and they complied, according to the news release.
After Jarvis fled on foot, Aberdeen police officers chased him across the first block of Philadelphia Boulevard and ultimately cornered him inside a home in the first block of Aberdeen Avenue, police said. Officers entered the home and arrested him without incident.
Police were able to recover all items stolen during the robbery and the mask, according to the release.
Jarvis was ordered held on $100,000 bail after District Court Judge Mimi Cooper raised his bail at a hearing in Bel Air Friday.
Cooper also ordered him to have no contact with the victims or witnesses, or with Rite Aid, if he makes bail.
Jarvis has lived in Aberdeen with his grandmother for the past four or five years, public defender Lynne McChrystal said.
He completed a high school equivalency test and was studying to be a physical therapist at Harford Community College, she said.
After Jarvis joked about changing lawyers and appeared to be unaware of what was going on, Cooper questioned his mental competency but was ultimately satisfied he was competent.
He was still being held at the Harford County Detention Center late Friday afternoon.
