The final official vote count for Aberdeen's election from Tuesday shows Mayor Mike Bennett beat Patrick McGrady by 25 votes in a mayor's race that turned out closer than many people figured.
The city election drew 19 percent of registered voters, or 1,523 people, to the polls, according to the official count released Thursday. In comparison, the turnout for the 2009 election was 21 percent.
Incumbent Bennett was re-elected to a third term with 766 votes, while McGrady, who had never run for city office before, got 741 votes.
The final count included 18 absentee ballots and 16 more provisional ballots which were counted Thursday.
The four city council members were all re-elected with no opposition.
Ruth Elliott received 1,061 votes, Sandra Landbeck 1,034, Bruce Garner 993 and Ruth Ann Young 950.
A swearing-in ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at the beginning of Monday's city council meeting.
