Black commercial van used in Abingdon abduction attempt

The Harford County Sheriff's Office, which has released a picture of the type of van suspected in the attempted abduction of a student at a bus stop Monday morning, has received several calls from Fallston to Edgewood about possible sightings.

A 14-year-old boy was approaching his bus stop at about 6:30 a.m. Monday when, at the corner of St. Clair Drive and Benefit Court, a man in a black work van with tinted front windows approached him. The man threatened to harm the boy if he did not get into the vehicle and the boy ran back to his residence.

Since releasing the vehicle description, Public Information Officer Monica Worrell said the agency has received several calls about sightings of the van, but has not found the man involved.

These calls, according to the police report, range from a sighting of the work van at Route 152 and Charles Street on the far western side of Fallston, almost in Monkton, to a matching vehicle in the Home Depot parking lot in Edgewood.

Deputies are still investigating the incident and had no new information Thursday afternoon.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Cpl. Paul Ruszala at 410-836-5429.
