One of Annapolis' favorite holiday celebrations is getting a shot at some national recognition.

The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade was picked to be a contender in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice contest for Best Holiday Parade, the yacht club said.

The local parade, which features boats elaborately decorated with colorful Christmas lights, is part of a field of 20 that includes the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, the Mayor's Christmas Parade in Baltimore and the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade in California.

A "panel of experts" including journalists, food and travel writers, and photo editors, picked the 20 nominees.

The top 10 parades will be chosen by the public via online voting.

As of Wednesday evening, the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade was leading the pack.

Individuals can vote once a day until noon on Dec. 5. The winners will be announced Dec. 9.

This year's Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade is scheduled for Dec. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Annapolis Harbor.
