Police have characterized the incident as a murder-suicide.

A Baltimore man accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old Glen Burnie woman and critically injuring himself on Friday has died, county police said Sunday.

Da'von Markell Mullins, 22, of the 6900 block of Reisterstown Road, was charged with murder and related offenses after Kayla Yow, of Glen Burnie, was found dead from apparent upper-body trauma in her apartment on Glen Mar Drive, police said.

Police also found Mullins in the apartment suffering from upper-body trauma. The incident was characterized by police on Saturday as an apparent homicide combined with attempted suicide.

Preliminary investigation indicated the two had been in a relationship, police said.

Officers responded to Yow's apartment in the 400 block of Glen Mar Road after a 911 call from a family member of Mullins at 7 p.m., police said.

The family member asked police to check on Mullins at his girlfriend's apartment after several text messages left the caller worried about his welfare.

Officers found Yow dead in the living room, with Mullins nearby, police said.

Both had suffered gunshot wounds, and a handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Mullins was taken to an area hospital by emergency medical services and was in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Yow's remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, police said.
