A workout for everyone? Not quite

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fitness DVD "DanceX -- Total Body Cardio" boldly advertises itself in trailers, on its Web site and on the DVD cover as "everybody's workout."

And it's almost true -- with a music mix that includes Latin, Bhangra, Irish, African, Indian, disco and even a club mix of Pachelbel's "Canon in D" for classical fans, it would be hard not to feel inspired to get up and dance. This is the only exercise routine we've come across, too, that transitions from the twist, to the "John Travolta," to Irish "Riverdance" kicks in just minutes.

The video sells for $24.95, only through dancexfitness.com.

But, though this workout might appeal to almost everybody, not everybody will be able to do it. The 40-minute all-dance routine, though not always high impact, is always high energy. Exercises include squats and twists that people with hip, knee and joint problems won't be able to perform, and alternatives are never suggested.

Nevertheless, if it's a calorie-burning dance routine you want, that's what you get. According to our heart-rate monitor, we burned almost 340 calories doing the whole thing -- about as many as we burn in a kickboxing class.
