Universal plans virtual reality experience for Halloween Horror Nights 2016

Halloween Horror Nights 2016 will include new virtual reality experience

Universal Orlando Resort's offering Halloween Horror Nights fans a new interactive experience this year, combining real-life characters and virtual reality.

Guests will work in teams to solve the dark mystery that unfolds in the "The Repository" storyline, according to theme park officials. The limited-time attraction was created by Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights team and Universal Creative, creators of the theme park's attractions.

"Throughout this extended, heart-pounding adventure, guests will explore highly thematic physical environments and interact with real-life characters," reads a news release.

Universal leaders partnered with Bellevue, Wash.-based VRStudios to create the experience. Virtual reality headsets will be provided to each participant for the game.

The experience begins Sept. 29 and runs through Oct. 31. It will cost guests an additional $49.99, on top of admission prices for the Halloween Horror Nights 2016, which requires a special ticket.

Tickets for "The Repository" go on sale Aug. 16 for annual passholders and Aug. 23 for the general public.

Halloween Horror Nights, which opens Sept. 16, will run for 31 select nights at Universal Studios theme park. For more information or tickets, go to or 407-420-5414
