'My Prodigal Child' returns to DeLand for one show

"My Prodigal Child," by DeLand playwright Andre Darby, returns to the Athens Theatre for an encore performance at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.

Platinum Workz and the Athens Theatre present the original musical play, which was originally staged at the Athens in June.

The play tells of a woman who abandons motherhood and family, in the hopes of chasing a future and lavish lifestyle with her drug-dealing boyfriend. However, her devout mother refuses to give up on her. Will the woman come to her senses and return home before grace runs out, or will it be too late?

The show stars LaKesia Muhammad, J.R. Pasley and Vashad Williams. Playwright Darby, the younger brother of singer Terence Trent D'Arby, also directs the production.

The Athens Theatre is at 124 N. Florida Avenue, DeLand. Tickets are $15. Go to http://www.AthensDeland.com or call 386-736-1500.
