August tax holiday not just for back-to-school shopping

Florida's sales tax holiday not just for back-to-school shopping

Florida's annual tax relief holiday offers parents and teachers ten days to stock up on much needed back-to-school items without the additional burden of the state's six to seven percent sales tax.

But think beyond back-to-school shopping -- the sales tax holiday is available to everyone.

This year's Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled from Aug. 7 to Aug. 16, and the variety of items goes far beyond educational needs, including everything from accessories for your hair to work uniforms. Click through the related gallery for more tax exempt items.

Be aware that items for sale at theme parks, entertainment venues, hotels and airports are not included. So, if you're looking for a new Mickey Mouse baseball cap, you'll need to buy it at a retail location off Disney property.

Also not included:

  • Individual items of clothing priced over $100.
  • Individual school supply items selling for more than $15.
  • Rentals, leases, repairs and alterations.

Retailers are responsible for passing on the discount, so be sure to check your receipts.
