All-Central Florida Baseball

First Team
Adam Sanabria
Lake Mary, Senior, pitcher
Season Stats: 11-3 record, 1.73 ERA and 115 strikeouts.
The Buzz: The Tallahassee Community College recruit got the tough starts in a tough schedule but still led Central Florida in pitching wins for a final-four team.

Justin Meier
West Orange, Junior, pitcher
Season Stats: 10-1, 98 strikeouts, 7 walks, 0.98 ERA.
The Buzz: Meier beat a murderer's row of rivals -- Winter Park, Apopka and Boone -- to lead the Warriors to the Metro crown. He also beat Lake Mary and Lake Brantley.

Greg Dini
Bishop Moore, Senior, utility player
Season Stats: .444 batting average, 8 home runs, 17 doubles, 32 RBIs.
The Buzz: As a catcher and closer, Dini was the foundation of a Class 3A state runner-up club. He struck out 31 in only 152/3 innings pitched. He signed with Miami.

Adam Donachie
Colonial, Junior, catcher
Season Stats: .506, 19 doubles, 6 homer runs, 39 RBIs.
The Buzz: A stellar defensive catcher who had as good a year as anybody in Central Florida with the stick, Donachie collected 42 hits in 83 at-bats for the Grenadiers.

Jason Cavanaugh
Seabreeze, Junior, 1st baseman
Season Stats: .425, 18 RBIs; 9-2, 1.20 ERA as pitcher.
The Buzz: Many Sandcrabs could pitch and hit, but none came up bigger than Cavanaugh in their run to the Class 4A state final. He was 3-0 in the postseason.

Mario Lombardo
Bishop Moore, Junior, infielder
Season Stats: .270, 27 runs; 7-2, 0.90 ERA.
The Buzz: He combined with Matt Rhodes (10-4) to give the Hornets a potent 1-2 pitching duo and also delivered as a 3rd baseman, including a 2-run double at the state tournament.

Angelo Petracca
Seminole, Senior, infielder
Season Stats: .350; 8-1, 2.56 ERA as pitcher.
The Buzz: Petracca was invaluable as a pitcher/3rd baseman for a district title team that enjoyed an 18-game winning streak. He signed with Daytona Beach Community College.

Matt Horwath
Lake Mary, Junior, infielder
Season Stats: .359, 4 HR, 18 RBIs.
The Buzz: The slick shortstop made big plays for the Seminole Athletic Conference champs. In an area rich in shortstops, he figures to be one of the area's top 2002 prospects.

Johnny DeStefano
Spruce Creek, Senior, outfielder
Season Stats: .349, 20-23 on steals; 8-4, 2.33 ERA.
The Buzz: The left-hander used his speed to chase down balls in the gap and run the bases. And he struck out 102 as a pitcher. DeStefano signed early with Stetson.

Jayson Weir
Boone, Senior, outfielder
Season Stats: .287, 8 home runs, 20 RBI; 7-2, 1.80 ERA.
The Buzz: The District 10 MVP selection of the coaches' association hit .287, provided the power for the Braves and struck out 98 on mound while issuing 19 walks.

Jason Bornstein
Eustis, Senior, outfielder
Season Stats: .355, 13 doubles, 6 home runs, 31 RBIs.
The Buzz: Also an ace pitcher (6-3, 1.03 ERA) for a 26-6 team, Bornstein pitched the Panthers to the 2000 state title. He signed with Lake-Sumter Community College.

Doug Brown
Trinity Prep, Junior, designated hitter
Season Stats: .459, 14 HRs, 45 RBI.
The Buzz: The junior catcher led Central Florida in homers and RBIs as Trinity Prep (25-3) had 24 straight wins before losing to eventual Class 2A champ King's Academy.
