Lion King wing of Disney's Art of Animation Resort set to open

Disney World is set to open up the third wing of the new Art of Animation Resort as the Lion King holds court starting Aug. 10.

The resort has opened up in stages beginning with the "Finding Nemo" section in May, "Cars" in June and now "The Lion King." Last up for the four-section resort is the "Little Mermaid," slated to open September 15.

The new wing features 320 family suites amid theming from the animated hit including a courtyard that mimics the African Pride Lands with larger-than-life statues of Simba, King Mufasa Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu and Scar as well as a play area featuring the elephant graveyard.

The Lion King stage is the only one of the four without a pool, but the main pool that opened with the Finding Nemo wing is adjacent to the wing.

The resort is labeled one of Disney's value resorts, and looks to cater to families, especially those with more than four in their party. Now with three wings open, there are 1,120 new family suites that include two bathrooms, a kitchenette and three separate sleeping areas for up to six guest. Rates begin from $248 a night. When the "Little Mermaid" wings opens with 864 standard rooms, rates will be as low as $94 a night.

The resort is located near Disney's Hollywood Studios and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with bus transportation available to all of Walt Disney World Resort's parks., 407-420-5134
