Jon Stewart and Fox: News, lies and misinformation

Regarding Jon Stewart's swipe at Chris Wallace over whether Fox News viewers are misinformed: As much as the media is blamed for spreading lies and misinformation, people will believe what they want to.

More often than not, what they want to believe is shaped by their immediate surroundings, their parents, churches, schools, friends and life experiences.

So good luck trying to tell Rep. Michelle Bachman that "intelligent design" is not intelligent, or Sen. John McCain that illegal immigrants aren't to blame for the recent fires in Arizona. We are a nation of blind beliefs.

Fox plays to this weakness, as do many other outlets. The blame for our rampant culture of misinformation lies at the feet of the misinformed.

Besides, facts are neither sexy nor popular. Many media outlets spout hysterical opinions for infotainment and ratings. And many depend on the patronage of the misinformed for their survival.

Jon Stewart, I am sure, is no exception.
