Whether you agree or disagree with the verdict in the Zimmerman trial, a jury has spoken unanimously: There was not enough evidence to convict Mr. Zimmerman beyond a reasonable doubt ("Martin verdict fires debate," July 15).
The family of Trayvon Martin has the option of bringing a civil suit similar to the one brought against O.J. Simpson — but with the difference that the defendant George Zimmerman has no deep pockets.
The Department of Justice could also bring federal civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman.
If it is any consolation to the Martin family, Mr. Zimmerman will be cautious in future encounters that might lead to violence because he would be facing a jury with a mindset against him — as occurred with Mr. Simpson during his subsequent trial for robbery.
