As reported in The Sun, NBC news anchor Brian Williams was suspended without pay for six months for "embellishing" his account of an incident in Iraq in 2003 ("NBC suspends Brian Williams without pay for 6 months," Feb. 10). In 2008, Hilary Clinton similarly "embellished" an account of her landing in Bosnia and then having to duck and run for cover under sniper fire. This account was later proven to be totally fabricated by her when actual film footage showed her standing on the runway with her daughter Chelsea, being read a poem by an 8-year-old Bosnian girl.
A few months later, Hilary Clinton was appointed Secretary of State.
The message here seems clear. When it comes to news reporters, we actually expect them to tell the truth. If they don't, there are serious consequences. But with politicians, apparently we are so used to it when they don't tell the truth, it is considered business as usual.
