The remarkable life of Elie Wiesel demonstrates the unbelievable ability of human beings to overcome adversity of the most unspeakable nature and to ultimately make a huge difference in the lives of their fellow men and women ("Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, dead at 87," July 2).
Even more importantly, it illustrates how even in a highly civilized and cultured country it is still possible for a group of fanatical bigots to gain control of the levers of power by electoral means and then impose their hateful philosophy on otherwise good people.
If it could happen in Germany it can happen here in America as well.
