Several years ago, United Way of Central Maryland solicited area businesses to "makeover" the Robert C. Marshall Recreation Center on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore. Because the project was such a daunting and expensive undertaking, it was envisioned that at least a half-dozen corporate teams would be needed. Wells Fargo agreed to take on the entire project by itself. It was impressive to see hundreds of bank employees turn out over several successive days to clean, paint, install new sports equipment, and outfit a computer technology lab, game room and library. Many youth and families in West Baltimore now enjoy a cleaner, safer and more inviting recreation center thanks to the bank and its staff.
