The Madonna and the ballplayer

The U.S. Postal Service selected "The Madonna of the Candelabra" as an official Christmas stamp for 2011 and 2012. (U.S. Postal Service)

Regarding your article "Christmas, courtesy of The Walters" (Dec. 16), I say hurray to the U.S. Postal Service for publishing Raphael's "Madonna of the Candlelabra" on one of its 2011 holiday stamps.

Now, if we could get that same office to publish an image of the "Seated Ballplayer" from the Walters' collection, it would not only celebrate Opening Day for the Orioles and Ravens, it would also raise awareness of the pre-Columbian history of our hemisphere, where a 3,500-year-old ball game is still being played in Sinaloa, Mexico.
