There is evidence that voting machines in several jurisdictions in Maryland have switched Republican votes to Democratic ones ("GOP calls for investigation of voting machines after errors are reported," Oct. 28).
Wouldn't you think Gov. Martin O'Malley would hold a press conference to announce specific steps being taken to ensure the integrity of the ballot box given what is expected to be a close gubernatorial race? The election is just days away.
But I guess that is too much to expect from Mr. O'Malley, who along with Democratic legislators opposes voter ID laws in Maryland despite a highly mobile population and thousands of undocumented immigrants.
Sovereignty is a fundamental element of democracy in which you can only vote in a particular jurisdiction if you reside there and are a citizen. You can only vote in Baltimore City if you are a city resident and you can only vote in Maryland if you are a Maryland resident.
And whether you vote for a Republican, Democrat or write-in candidate, you need to be assured that your vote will be counted as you cast it.
