Earlier this week, I attended the refresher course for Maryland election judges and completed the "Election Judge Assessment" test. I think it would be noted that in the 2016 "Election Judge Manual", Chapter 1, General Information, page 1.7 "Voter ID Policy," it states that a judge should not ask a voter to show identification unless the voter is marked as "'Show ID' in the electronic pollbook."
Note that the "do not" is underlined and boldly printed in the manual.
So, we need to show a photo identifcation at the airport, to rent a car, to get the balance on a bank account, to make a retail purchase using a credit card, to get a prescription, to receive a driving ticket, but in Maryland you don't need one to vote. And in Maryland, all citizens can obtain a Maryland-issued photo ID even if they don't drive a car.
I wish someone at the Maryland General Assembly would explain the rationale behind that stance ("Tim Kaine visits Wisconsin, says GOP trying to make it harder to vote," Aug. 17)!
