Who deserves a COLA?

Although I agree with a tax break for vets, as a retired groundskeeper for the Baltimore County Public Schools I have not received a cost-of-living allowance since 2010 ("Vets get benefits already," Feb. 20).

People on fixed incomes know that insurance rates increase every year as our checks shrink. Our retirement fund is based on investments made in the stock market, which has done well over the last couple of years.

Yet Fred Holman, the county administrative officer, feels that we don't need — or deserve — a COLA, but other county retirees, such as teachers, do.

Once again, county government is screwing the little guy.
