Clinton is unfit to be commander in chief

Commentator Jamie Barnett offers a plethora of reasons why Donald Trump should not be commander in chief of the U.S. military ("Trump is no commander in chief," July 6).

Though he may have valid reservations about Mr. Trump, I find it incomprehensible that Mr. Barnett, or anyone else in the military, could endorse Hillary Clinton as commander in chief after her infamous remark, "What does it matter? They're dead," in response to questions about the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and his bodyguards.

Ms. Clinton's remarks show her true feelings about members of the military: they are nothing more than pawns to be sacrificed without concern or regret on the game board of world politics.

The life and death of every fighting man and woman in our military should be of the utmost concern to the politicians in Washington and especially to the president as commander in chief. Ms. Clinton's attitude is as much a disqualification for the job of commander in chief as all of Mr. Barnett's reservations about Mr. Trump combined.

To anyone with a friend or family member in the military I ask the following question: How will you feel if your son, daughter or spouse is killed while serving in the military and when you ask why, Ms. Clinton says "They're dead. What does it matter?"
