Downtown circulator makes economic sense; streetcars don't

A downtown circulator on Charles Street running from the Inner Harbor to University Parkway is a great idea. This route offers access to Peabody, Johns Hopkins, the University of Baltimore, MICA, the Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art, along with many restaurants and retail businesses.

However, I fail to see the advantage of a light-rail system costing $195 million over the trolleys currently in operation. To even try to float this idea in these troubled economic times seems preposterous.
